Ripple Cruise Communicator App Reviews

Just returned from a 10 day cruise aboard Royal Caribbeans Grandeur of the Seas. Having read that some cruise lines and various ships have blocked this app from working we decided as a group of 18 to take the gamble anyways and give it a shot after reading recent reports that it did indeed work aboard Grandeur. We were happy to see shortly after boarding and connecting to the ships Wi-Fi network at the app did indeed still function and we soon began to appear on each others friends list. Connecting to the ships Wi-Fi in such a fashion that you remain connected is a bit of a trick, however - when the login screen appears quickly click cancel and you will be presented with the option to "use the network selected without an Internet connection" – selecting this will keep you connected to the ships Wi-Fi network constantly which is essential for this app to function. I did find the app significantly buggy however - quite often only the first few words of a message would make it through with the rest seemingly disappearing into oblivion. We quickly learned to send long messages three or four words at a time to avoid this issue. At several points during the cruise my daughter was able to send messages to one of her friends, however messages she sent back in reply never arrived despite the fact that she could successfully message everybody else – we had to reset her application via the "new cruise" option several times and re-add her to the group which would usually restore things. The voice call function works surprisingly well (and might very well be the preferred communication option for many!) although the video call function never worked a single time. Being forced to leave the app in the foreground was admittedly a big inconvenience – when somebody would flip to their camera up to take photos, or spend some time playing a game, one has to remember to open the app again before locking your phone otherwise others wont be able to get a hold of you. Im not sure if this is a operating system limitation with the iPhone specifically, or if the op wasnt written with multitasking in mind, but as mentioned it was a big inconvenience. Having said all of that and despite the bugs it was three dollars well spent and it did serve us well for the duration of our cruise, however one would be well advised to do some Google searching to make sure the app will work on your specific cruise line and ship before committing to the purchase.

This app is great it works on our two iPhone 4s and iPad 2 running iOS 7 but it wont work on our iPod touch 4th generation.Will you fix it and fast our cruise is coming up soon.

Running v. 6.1.1 on iPhone3. App wont open. Crashes when trying to open.

Worked for me on the Dream. We even took an iPod for my grandson and when he left with Family we could find him quick.

I bought this app thinking it would be a nice feature on my cruise. I got it on an iPhone 5c and an iPad mini. It does not work at all. It is unresponsive and the people who run it refuse to help. Its a waste of money and I want my money back.

I just got back from a cruise with my wife and 6 kids. This app saved our day, it kept everyone in touch and let us enjoy our time without having to worry about kid logistics. Trust me on this one, it is well worth the cost.

My family goes on cruises regularly and this app is perfect! We can let the kids have fun without making them come back to check in so often.

This is awesome! This is the sort of technology I have been waiting for on a cruise! You dont have to pay anything but the download of this app. I cant wait to use it!!

We downloaded this for our trip on the Carnival Triumph. It worked fine on out home network. As soon we were on the ships network it no longer worked.

This really would of been a great app if it would of worked. Tried on 3 different ships last week. The one I was on. And 2 others we ported next to. Nothing would work with it. Just hoping all three had wifi issues. And not the app.

Im currently on the Carnival Legend and the app will not work, even after connecting to carnival-wifi. I tested the app at home before leaving on my cruise, but unplugging the phone line and leaving the network setup, to test how the app would work without an internet connection. It worked perfectly during my test. However, when I connected to the carnival wifi network, without purchasing a wifi plan this app will not work.

Works great on the iPhone 5 and iPod with iOS 6. Look forward to using it more on the ship. Thanks for the great communication and support!

Tried using this on the Carnival Dream and it would not work. When it searched for my wifes code it couldnt find anything. Waste of money.

Did not work on carnival dream last week! Would not connect or find other phones.

Works great! Used on a plane and it worked as advertised.

Tried to use on Carnival Magic week of 8/17 3 diff iPhone 5s. Did not work, would not even put code names in. No good directions to help
